Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth2 Becomes Official Pricing And Release Details In The Pipeline

Make no mistake, the budget tablet scene is big with consumers at the moment, and we’re seeing a bunch of manufacturers chasing a slice of that pie. Hot on the heels of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 3 Lite announcement comes the reveal of Huawei‘s MediaPad 7 Youth2. The name obviously doesn’t do much to spark the imagination, but there are a couple of features this tablet boasts that might be worth paying attention to if you’re looking for budget-priced slate.

As you may have already figured out, the tablet comes equipped with a 7-inch screen, which displays at 1024 x 600 resolution. This follow-up to the original MediaPad 7 Youth will employ an MSM8x12 quad-core A7 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage. You’ll be able to expand on that rather paltry amount of on-board storage through the included microSD slot, so if you’ve had your eye on a bunch of apps, it’s probably a good idea to pick up a microSD card with your tablet. Support for HSPA+ and Wi-fi 802.11 b/g/n rounds out the features list, along with a 3MP rear-facing camera that we can’t imagine will be getting much use.

Odd as it may seem, one feature that could end up getting a fair amount of attention is the 4100mAh lithium polymer battery. While there’s nothing particularly impressive about a 4100mAh battery on its own, this one will be backed with Huawei’s “patented power-saving tech” and the company’s Dyanmic Power Management system. These supposedly contribute to a longer lasting battery, so if battery life is important to you, maybe the MediaPad 7 Youth2 will be worth a look. The tablet will be running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box, which will be wrapped up in Huawei’s Emotion UI 1.6.

So, as long as the price is right, this probably won’t be too terrible of a tablet. That’s just the thing, though: perhaps the two most important details from the consumer’s standpoint – pricing and release – were missing from Huawei’s announcement. It’s anyone guess as to when Huawei plans to release this tablet, but the company will definitely have to price it competitively if it wants the MediaTab 7 Youth2 to be a success. The Galaxy Tab 3 Lite is already enjoying plenty of attention, and going head-to-head with the reigning king of the seven-inch tablet space, the Nexus 7, will certainly prove to be a tall task. Stay tuned.
